About

Dr Guna Gunalan is a senior lecturer with a passion to develop innovative and sustainable disaster-resilient buildings and facades. He is particularly interested in the behaviour and design of timber, aluminium and steel structures, including fire impacts on these structures and thermal performance. Guna worked as a structural engineer before completing his PhD studies and returning to academia. He is currently working on the challenges and opportunities in the timber, aluminium and facade industries.

Dr. Gunalan’s experience with timber structures and his research into sustainable building materials positions him well to contribute to the use of low-value fibre. His familiarity with timber engineering would enable him to provide insights on how engineered wood products are utilized in construction globally, especially for residential frame structures. Dr. Gunalan’s background as a structural engineer and his involvement with façade engineering could aid in finding alternative timber solutions for façade applications. Dr. Gunalan’s research in disaster-resilient and sustainable construction would provide valuable insights and ensure the study aligns with current industry needs and future trends.
