About
Alec Tzannes is the founding Director of Tzannes. He established the studio’s distinctive design philosophy, with its emphasis on intellectual rigour, collaboration, sustainability and ethics. He is central to the strategic direction of the practice, and responsible for all projects, ensuring consistency across all fields.
He has directed the design of International House Sydney and Daramu House both built examples of mass timber construction.
Current mass timber buildings in design phases include 4-6 York Street, lodged as a DA with the City of Sydney. This is a 13-level building above ground 11 of which are mass timber construction. Another mass timber building currently ‘on hold’ is at the UNSW Kensington campus designed as a new facility for the Faculty of engineering.
He will support the ARC Advance Timber Hub research as an advocate and by contributing to the research design knowledge and business management insights related to design practice.
