About

Mateo is a Civil and Structural engineer with experience in R&D, manufacturing, fire safety and consulting on timber, bamboo, and concrete structures. Undertook a PhD in structural and fire safety engineering at The University of Queensland and a Master’s in structural engineering at the National University of Colombia. He holds the position of Structural Engineer – R&D at AKD Softwoods. In this role, He works with clients, builders, and designers to analyse product performance and determine future trends of AKD’s structural products. His fields of expertise comprise timber engineering, engineered wood products, mechanics of materials, product development, quality control, and structural fire performance of timber and bamboo. Dr Gutierrez has worked in civil construction, project management, product development, structural engineering, and university teaching and researching at different Universities in Colombia and Australia. Mateo is actively involved with the INBAR Bamboo Construction Taskforce and the ISO Technical Committee 165/WG 12, where He is the Standards Australia nominated expert. Mateo is a Member of Engineers Australia (MIEAust), a member of committee SD-063 TM-011 AS/NZS 1328.1, a Member of the Australian Timber Construction & Education Network (ATCEN), and a founding Member of the SIBGUADUA Research Network (Colombia).
